I don't know how long I've had nystagmus, it could have been congenital, but I mainly see out of my left eye. (At least I don't have double vision or vertigo or anything like that! heh)
My eyes jerk much more if I'm looking out of the left corner of my left eye (I have fun reversing in my car, I can tell you!), but not so much when I look towards my nose.
Due to the issues with my right eye when I was very young (ulcer on my eye at 2 1/2 due to contact lens (to replace my natural lens that was removed in a cataract operation at 6 months), I have been told by my mother that it was recommended that I should never use contacts. (Shame, I'd get twice as much wear out of a pair of them that "normal" people would!)
I've not asked Opticians about "the future" of my eyesight and glasses - I am long sighted and getting more so with each eye test! I need to book an appointment soon anyway, so I'll maybe ask then - if I remember!
I think I'll be in trouble, though... what with my normal reading distance being about 10 inches (as opposed to normal 16 inches), being long-sighted, but not being able to read things in the distance due to fuzziness caused by the nystagmus (and possibly my astigmatism)... oh yes, it'll have to be a fantastic pair of glasses to cope with all that! And I'm not looking forward to it, either. Ho hum.
I'll let you know if I remember to ask, although now I'm curious!
