Disabled people (including visually-impaired people like us) are entitled to take a 'carer' into the cinema with us for free on production of a valid 'Cinema Exhibitors Association Card'.
The card costs £5.50 a year. For those of us who still like to go to the cinema, it means that we could go with a friend or partner and share the saving on the (not inconsiderable) admission price.
More details and an application form may be found at:
http://www.ceacard.co.uk/
The card is valid at most major cinema chains.
The scheme is intended to absolve the cinema from having to provide any special 'care' to disabled people by letting them take their own carer in for free.
Shame my card arrived too late to have used it to go see the latest 'Harry Potter' film last weekend!
