Postby Helenb1984 on Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:46 pm

Hello.
Has anyone here ever had laser surgery to correct there vision ?
If so has it improved your vision better than what glasses or lenses have?

My nystagmus was diagnosed when I was 8 I also have a bad astigmatism -6 :-(
I really wish I could see to get my driving license I'm only 2 metres short of reading a number plate at 20.5 Metres

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your post about laser surgery. The answer is very simple. Laser surgery will do nothing to reduce nystagmus.

Someone with nystagmus might have laser surgery to correct more common eye defects. However, at most all this might do is remove the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. It would NOT improve on your best corrected vision with glasses or contact lenses.

We have published an article on this subject written by one of our medical advisers in our Focus newsletter which goes to all NN members.
