Recent diagnosis

Postby Suzanne on Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:09 pm

Im new to the forum.

My little boy is 19 months. We have know for over a year that he has nystagmus but recentl

y he has been diagnosed with cerebal palsy. The cerebal palsy is the cause for his nystagmus. We are relived to a cetain extent, it means that it is nothing more serious. He is a happy lovely clever little boy. He is adored by his mummy, daddy and big sister - but it is a big cruel world out there.

Will he be ok at school? Will he be able to participate in all the activities at school like other kids?

I read one of the other mums comments on DLA. We have been told by the neurologist to claim, but will we get it? I dont think I have any fight left at the moment to go up against "the benefits agency".

Any help will be very greatfully recieved - thank you for your time.

Hi,

Whether you will get DLA dependson how much more help he needs compared to a child of the same age. if you do wish to claim, then get as much evidence as you possibly can. it's not to do with the disability itself, it's to do with the amount of help he needs.
