Hello all,
I was wondering if people would like to share their experiences of assistive technology, and talk about what really works for them?
I know that Nystagmus can have numerous variations, but I myself like to live day-to-day in as standard a way as possible, and I am therefore heartened by some of the more mainstream-looking assistive technology now out there (I have just brought myself a large number, talking watch from an RNIB resource centre for example).
However, I am just starting to come to terms with understanding that I really could help myself, and reduce the levels of fatigue which I find happen all too often, with other assistive technology. For example I'm wondering if a Kapten Plus voice-controlled GPS would be helpful to me, so that I am not losing focus on the road by checking google maps on my phone all the time.
I put this in the employment section as it seems most relevant, but I know that Disabled Student Allowances exist, and have recently benefited from this myself - however my feelings on the supplied technology are mixed. The most bespoke items have proven the most useful.
