The Programme
talks by;
Rebecca McLean from Leicester University, Department of Ophthalmology will talk about “Nystagmus Research in Leicester”
Debbie Wiggins, Cardiff University School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, who has recently been awarded a doctorate for nystagmus research, will be talking about her work on “Stress and Nystagmus”
Colin Smith., Outreach Manager, Disability and Carers Service, DWP
Will talk about the Disability Living Allowance
Action for Blind People, Birmingham will also be there to answer your questions about employment. |

Activities for Teenagers and Young People
Arranged and organised by LOOK (The National Federation of Families with Visually Impaired Children) the programme for people children and young people sets out to address what young people themselves identify as a major problem i.e. how to avoid being ‘picked on’ because of their eye condition
There will be two sessions for each of two age groups, 7 to 11 years and 12 to 18 years (some flexibility in the ranges) alternating morning and afternoon.
Activity 1. Martial Arts (not Kung Fu) based on how to avoid conflict “best line of defence is to run” professional qualified sessions leaders and maybe some stars of Paralympics
Activity 2. Bullying and how to avoid it. Kidscape (the first charity in the UK established specifically to prevent bullying and child abuse) will be leading this session in co-ordination and confidence building.
There will be a professional crèche for very young children.

Non-members and their families are more than welcome at our open day, however, they are unable to use our online booking system and should therefore contact Paul White by email (info@nystagmusnet.org) regarding making a booking.

Refund Policy
Registrations this year are made according to the number of people attending the Open Day rather than, as in previous years, premises hire. For this reason we have to adopt a cancellation policy as follows,
For bookings cancelled up to
- 2 months before the day - 35% payable
- 1 month before the day - 50% payable
- 15 days before the day - 75% payable
- less than 15 days before the day - 100% payable

Accomodation
A number of rooms for 2 to 4 persons will be available at Jury’s Inn on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July at the specially discounted rate of £50.00 per room. To book these rooms, telephone the Conference Desk at Jury’s Inn on 0115 901 6740 quoting Nystagmus Network.
Hotel parking facilities are available at £6.00 per day, £10.00 per 24 hours or £16.00 per weekend (payable on the day). |

From London, using M1, approximately 125 miles-2 hours

Parking
Paid car parking is 2 minutes from the hotel with an on demand shuttle service.
There are Park and Ride schemes in operation from a number of locations within a few minutes of the city centre.
